Many people become confused with the numerous terminologies that are bounced around in the anti aging cream industry. There are many different reasons why there are so many specialized names in the industry, but the number one reason you hear so many different terms is because the marketing minds behind these companies are highly intelligent.
Many companies market eye cream products under different names. For starters, we have the basic eye cream. This is what most people search for when they visit Google and look for an under eye cream.
However, one term that has really taken off in the last 18 months is eye serum.
So, what is the difference between an eye cream and an eye serum?
As far as what these products will do to your skin when applied as directed – NOTHING.
If you look around the Internet and investigate various products, they will often make the following claims:
- Reduces Dark Circles Under the Eyes.
- Works to Remove Sun Damage.
- Reduces Eye Puffiness.
- Eliminates Eye Bags.
- Works to Lift and Plump the Skin Under the Eyes, and Promote Collagen Re-Growth.
For those reasons, and many other similar claims you will most likely encounter, an eye serum and an eye cream are basically the same product.
There is one trend, however. Many eye serums, (but certainly not all) use cosmeceuticals. This means that they use high-profile, laboratory tested ingredients when making the formula. Ingredients such as Argireline and Haloxyl are common. For this reason, many people will argue that an eye serum is more medicinal, and therefore will yield much more substancial results.
One other trend that is constant in eye serums is that they are more viscous than eye creams. If you were to apply an eye cream to a wall, for example, it will stick rather firmly. On the other hand, an eye serum will run.
Be leery of any company that tries to sell more than one under eye product by using different terminologies. Use only one product that is aimed to treat the under-eye area. If you use more than one, you could have a reaction which could lead to irritation.
