Skin Inc talks about eye cream ingredients.

In a recent issue of Skin Inc. Magazine, Skin Pro’s Richard Banks spent time with the editorial staff talking about the latest eye cream ingredients.  Eye creams have come a long way since the normal hyaluronic acids and vitamin c eye creams.  We’ve seen that many of the big cosmeceutical ingredients have got all the love in recent years, and why not?  They are hands down the best way to treat the visible signs of aging such as:

• dark under eye circles
• uneven skin
• large pores
• eye wrinkles (crow’s feet)
• fine lines and expression wrinkles
• discoloration

When cosmeceuticals came to the market, all of the department store eye creams went into a tailspin.  Now that consumer’s have become smarter shoppers, they know to look for clinical studies and laboratory data when comparing eye creams.  If an eye cream doesn’t have any unique, independent studies behind it, what’s the value?

Elite Serum was profiled in this article, which appeared on January 9, 2012.  The Elite Serum contains all of the above ingredients, plus many more. EyeCream.com: You started with one product in 2009, and over two years later, you have eight skin care products.  How did you evolve over time and continue to find new products that you knew people would enjoy using?

Schmidt: We listened to our customer base, and constantly follow skin care trends.  While many companies use similar ingredients since their studies are released publicly from the corresponding overseas labs, we take those studies, combine our time-tested ingredient concentrations, and blend them together.  Our head pharmacist is the prototypical “guy in the white lab coat.”  The end result is an actual clinical test on the product we manufacture, not just a study of the ingredients inside the product that were done on an independent level.

EyeCream.com: So essentially you tested product formulas and based on what they did in lab testing, you backed a product into the formula?

Schmidt: Indeed.  We heard a lot of requests for a “cure” for dark under eye circles and acted on improving some prototype skin serums we had made a while back.   While there is no “cure” – if anyone tells you there is, they are not being honest with you – we have formulated an organic mix of proteins and natural antioxidants we feel is the best on the market.  We are constantly among the top sellers on Amazon.com with this product, and it will greatly reduce the appearance of darkness and puffiness for people of all age levels.

EyeCream.com: Does it really work as advertised?

Schmidt: If used as directed, yes.  We did extensive clinical trials on the Dark Circle Serum as well as other products, and we can’t fudge those numbers, they were done by an outside party.  Of course, everyone has different skin, and there is always room for error or it’s possible results will vary.  I like to compare skin care to a diet and weight loss plan.  Many factors, even your current state of well being, go into the end result, but with diligence, patience, and a good supplement plan, the end results are always positive.  The product has been well received by consumers both directly and through our distribution channels, which are growing every year.  We could not be happier with the performance of the Dark Circle Serum and it’s become the product that put us on the map.

EyeCream.com: We enjoyed the product during our tests.  How did you get Danica Jardien to endorse the product?

Schmidt: We started contacting beauty and make-up guru’s and she had mentioned she was struggling to find a product that really worked as advertised.  We sent her some samples and a while later she made some updates on her social media profiles about her success.  When we introduced the expanded line of products, she agreed to do video demonstrations about a year later for the entire line of products.  We’ve been fortunate to have had worked with Danica, she’s truly a guru  and has an amazing track record.

EyeCream.com: What is next for the Wrinkle System Skin Care brand?

Here is a summary of the ingredients used in Elite Serum…..

Argireline has been clinically proven to permanently reduce wrinkle depth and lines around the eyes by up to 50% within 30 days of application. Haloxyl is the only ingredient that has been therapeutically shown to effectively eliminate dark circles and puffiness under the eyes. These ingredients are very expensive, so finding the combination is very rare as most manufactures go a cheaper route.

There is nothing like Elite Serum on the market.  Elite Serum is composed of only FDA-approved ingredients and is manufactured in a ISO 9002 Certified facility in the USA, and remains our #1 eye cream for overall rejuvenation, wrinkle concealment, and ability to treat dark circles and puffiness.

Another upside of LifeCell is that it’s currently being offered on a free trial basis.  Make sure you understand what you are getting into when you buy LifeCell or any “free trial” eye cream for that matter.  Many people don’t properly read how they work and set themselves up for a sour experience. We took a long look at the ingredients in LifeCell, and the one that stands out to us is Argireline, which we cover extensively on this eye cream website. Many happy customers across the globe have posted solid wrinkle cream reviews after using this product.

While it did somewhat meet all the criteria of our efficacy tests, that is it reduced wrinkles, dark circles and puffiness around the eyes, the results were in the same ballpark as to results experienced with products at lower price points.  The problem most people have with LifeCell is that is promises the world and markets itself as an “end-all” solution to all skin problems from the neck up. Lacking a laundry list of marquee ingredient, especially one that works to treat dark circles (such as Haloxyl), it’s hard to rank it among the best eye creams on the market, but in all fairness to the makers of LifeCell, this is not really an eye cream, and more of a full-facial rejuvenation cream.

While there may be better values for full skin rejuvenation systems, LifeCell’s anti wrinkle cream is the go-to product for many buyers of anti aging products and the brand remains in good standing with our website and hasn’t generated any complaints.  In fact, the LifCell wrinkle cream reviews have been quite outstanding.

First, let’s provide some basic information about the staff member.  She goes by the screen name “MelStrel” and her consumer traits are “budget conscious, value conscious, Willing to pay for quality.”  Sounds like our kind of buying attitude in general with regards to skin care products like eye creams.  We are already a fan of “MelStrel.”

She notes that eye wrinkles are not currently a problem for her, but admits that darkness and puffiness have been problems for her.  She goes on to detail the fact that the Dark Circle Serum is a twice per day application – morning and evening.  She adds that she feels it’s a moderately priced item and did NOT see results in the first two weeks.

However, week three rolled around and she states

“I really do see improvement in the puffiness and discoloration. The bags are not gone entirely but I am going to continue to use the product – for me it’s rare that any eye product makes a difference. I think I’ve found one of the few that actually works.”

We did things differently this month.  For starters, we used keywords and phrases, much like one would do in Google, to find products that are ranking well under those terms.  In case you are new to Amazon.com, which we shop at about weekly, they display products in the order in which they are selling.  That is, if a product is selling like hot cakes, it will most likely be a top three seller on Amazon.com.

First search we did was “anti wrinkle cream.” Many people encounter eye creams when looking for this term and others online.  As we have written about in the past, the market is moving towards eye serums for correctional purposes, and eye creams are being used more often for protection purposes.  (To add moisture, protect from the sun, etc.)  This search term brought up – you guessed it – a “serum” as the top seller.  That belonged to Olay, which sells their Regenerating Serum for $14.87.  While the price may entice consumers, it lacks many of the high profile ingredients we like to see in anti aging products.  But, it’s hard to argue with the economic conditions and we fully understand not everyone allocates a huge budget to skin treatments.

Next, we performed a search for “eye cream” and found much of the same.  Obviously products that are affordable “add-ons” were dominating the top five, with Aveeno leading the way.  Most products were around $6-$10 and were from large brands you can find at Walgreens and other convenience stores.  At #6 we noticed Obagi, a known brand with serious skin treatments using the ingredients we like to look for.  They have a four star rating and many reviews – which is applaudable.

“Dark Circles” has it’s own category as it’s been seeing a spike in growth.  Most people in the world struggle with dark under eye circles, as they are not age-driven.  Dark circles can affect teens like they can affect the baby boomer crowd.  For the second month in a row, when we polled Amazon.com, the Dark Circle Serum led the way.  The product has a current 4.5 out of 5 star rating, and many reviewers bought the product directly from Amazon.com, which they signal with the “verified by Amazon” moniker.

As we’ve reached out to a few of the brands out there, we’re hoping to obtain some new products for review. This year, we’re looking to add to the site and include other skin product reviews, in hopes of making this a more appealing site to people who use skin care products at the rate we do.  It’s important to increase awareness and more people than ever are starting to use skin products to look younger, obtain a healthy skin tone, and gain more confidence.
